Fly Fishing Hawaii Ghetto Super Fly

The Ghetto Super Fly mimics the rectangular profile of a mantis shrimp. Originally designed for bonefish, this fly serves as a highly versatile flats option. It targets numerous species, including tarpon, catfish, bass, carp, bonefish, and trevally.

Size 4 Ghetto Super Fly (1.5g)

This heavy fly sinks fast and swims effectively to ensure hookups. It is ideal for the flats of Maui, Lanai, Kauai, Oahu, and Hawaii Island. Use this size in high currents, deeper water, surf zones, or when fishing from a flats boat. The weight requires casting further ahead of fish in shallow water. Larger flies create a larger splash; smaller flies create a smaller splash.

Size 6 Ghetto Super Fly (0.7g–0.9g)

These smaller flies excel for close-range presentations. Use this size during low light or low visibility when fish are within rod length. This allows you to place the fly in front of the fish without spooking them. Ensure a firm hook set due to the smaller hook size.

Operation and Color Selection

Maintain constant movement with this fly. Adjust your retrieve speed based on fish reaction, keeping the fly moving even when a fish is trailing it.

For maximum effectiveness, create contrast between the fly and the bottom. Use brown colors over white sand and beige colors over darker bottoms.
